When Tool of North America reached out to see if I wanted to help create an immersive full dome experience for Rufus Du Sol, I couldn’t say “HELL YES!!” fast enough. Taking place in the HP Antarctic Dome at Coachella 2019, “Underwater” is an 8 minute journey through mind bending visuals on an 11,000 sq. ft hemisphere canvas. Under the direction of James K. Frost, I was lucky to work alongside a super-group of digital designers from around the world (Ryan Hawthorne, Joyce N. Ho, Nicolas Arnold, & Joey Camacho). Utilizing a variety of techniques and hardware (Oculus Rift, fisheye renders, and half dome previewing software) we were able to visualize our design in a 3D space remotely, before assembling the final piece for an audience of 150k over two weekends. This installation is the largest and most artistically enriching initiative I have ever been a part, hats off to everyone on the team that made this possible.
